Retail Business Development Manager - West

About the Job

To create retail spaces for Chumbak within allocated budgets in order to ensure the growth of the Retail channel; forecasting future spaces in potential markets; To identify and sign retail spaces in Malls / Hi-Street for Chumbak as per business plan to deliver high quality distribution and growth while maintaining cost effectiveness and timelines.


Key Areas of Responsibility

Business Development

  • Responsible for the identification of new business locations for new stores.
  • Conducting market research to collect data and draw inferences to arrive at decision points, considering the overall strategic direction of the company
  • Develop projected P/L for all new stores
  • Create the budgeted retail space as per the brand requirements 
    • Network with Hi-street/Mall developers/real estate companies and identify the right location for Chumbak
    • Be in continuous look out at opportunities in operational Hi-street/Mall areas 
    • Identify sweet spots on high streets/Malls 
    • Maintain good PR with all the developers 
    • Network with property consultants & competition 
    • Finalize retail space in consultation with brands
    • Identify alternatives and evaluate financial and other impact 
  • Forecasting future spaces in potential markets 
    • Study relevant markets to understand business potential 
    • Continuously monitor competition and market activities 
    • Map spaces as per current and forecasted requirements 
    • Maintain relationships with owners of commercial properties to shortlist potential market places 
  • To ensure adherence to systems and processes 
    • Establish processes and systems required and regularly monitor them.
    • Establish effective tracking and reporting for review with COO
  • Renegotiate/Resize/Relocate stores if required


  • Complete financial planning for the project management of new store openings
  • Coordinate with Projects team and Mall management for smooth execution of the fit outs.  
  • Work with legal / compliance team to ensure legal compliance for all stores


Desired Experience and Skills
Education: MBA / PG in Retail Management
Years of Experience: 6-8 years


Key Skills Sought 

  • Strong pre-existing relationships with Malls / Hi-Street, Real Estate companies. Should have opened retail stores across all major locations in West India and have in-depth connections across all markets
  • Feasibility studies and analyses mainly in retail businesses 
  • Business acumen and understanding of the retail business cycle 
  • Good Knowledge of capital structuring, financial modeling & Forecasting
  • Good knowledge in marketing, market research, corporate communications
  • Good experience in Project Management
